Tuesday roundup: JA tops Red Raiders

Staff report

After a close first quarter on Valentine’s Day, the Jonathan Alder boys basketball team showed no love for visiting London.

The Pioneers (18-1) crushed the Red Raiders, 79-47.

Alder led just 16-15 after a quarter of play but outscored London, 26-4, in the second quarter thanks in large part to a 12-point effort from senior Eric Roby.

Roby led all scorers with 23 points. Teammate Alex Randall had 17 points and Nate Squires netted 16.

For London, Zac Carey led the way with 17 and Kyle Fisher had 11.

The Red Raiders finished the regular season 3-17.

Shekinah Christian 51,

Wellington 31

The host Shekinah Christian boys basketball team started out slowly against Wellington on Tuesday before pulling away in the second half.

The Flames outscored the Jags, 36-17, in the second half, including 22-8 in the fourth quarter.

“We were just cold in the first half,” Flames coach Arnold Shetler said. “It was a physical game.

“Finally, we started to shoot the ball we’re capable of shooting in the second half.”

Jonathan Roby and Luke Shetler each finished with 18 points.

Shekinah Christian improved to 13-5.

West Jefferson 59,

Grandview 34

The host West Jefferson boys basketball team had little trouble with visiting Grandview in Mid-State League/Cardinal Division play on Tuesday.

Cody Williams scored 13 for the ’Riders, while Nick Mendenhall finished with 10 and Ryan Love nine.
