Plain City residents can take advantage of an unique opportunity to dispose of unwanted electronics and sensitive documents thanks to the North Central Ohio Solid Waste District.
On Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plain City residents can take part in an E-Waste and Shred-It event at the Youth Building at Pastime Park that is sponsored by the North Central Ohio Solid Waste District, which serves Madison and Union counties.
“We have Accurate IT Services, from Columbus, handling the E-Waste collection,” program coordinator Darlene Steele said. “There is no charge to collect unwanted electronic items like computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, scanners, routers, hard drives cell phones and DVD players. They will also take televisions of any size for a $15 fee. The reason they have to charge to take televisions is they contain non-recyclable parts and must be disposed of differently.”
In addition to the E-Waste event, Steele has arranged for Fireproof, from Grove City, to shred residents unwanted personal documents on Saturday. This is the first time for either event in Plain City and residents can feel secure about disposing of their sensitive documents.
“Fireproof will take an unlimited amount of paper items from residents and they will shred them on scene,” Steele said. “Folks will not have to have any concerns about confidentiality as they will shred them right at the site. You can use any container you would like to bring the documents in and you can get your container back if you ask for it. There is no limit, but it is only for residents and not for businesses, by EPA guidelines.”
Steele said she was excited about bringing Fireproof in for the event, as the cost of shredding documents can be quite high.
“We have never had a Shred-It event or an E-Waste event in Plain City,” Steele said. “The other places I called wanted $200-$250 an hour to come and shred documents. Fireproof is only charging the North Central Ohio Solid Waste District $200 for the day for three employees to come on site and handle the shredding.”
The event will be held at the Youth Building on the grounds of Pastime Park, which is located at 344-350 N. Chillicothe St. in Plain City. All of the services, except for television collections, are free for residents. Absolutely no tires or household hazardous waste will be accepted at the event.
