Christmas Under the Clock will surprise you this year

With the warmer temperatures we’ve been having in the region, until the past few days, the holidays are about to sneak up on all of us and Christmas Under the Clock on Saturday, Dec. 1, is no exception. Get ready, it’s almost here.

At 5 p.m. on Dec. 1, the Tree Lighting Ceremony at Bicentennial Park at Main and Chillicothe streets begins with choirs, twirlers, R.Age, and more. The winners of the Christmas Under the Clock Coloring Contest for the Tree Lighting Ambassadors will again light the tree using the candy cane switch to officially mark the beginning of the Plain City holiday season.

New this year, the decorating contest brought to you by WQTT 1270 Radio and Main Street Treasures will announce the winners at the ceremony. The winners, three in the business category and three in the residence category, will be given their due at the ceremony with a presentation of their awards. You haven’t entered? Check out www.uptownplaincityorg.webs.com for information. Open to businesses and residents within the Plain City village corporation limits.

Once the Tree Lighting Ceremony is complete it’s time to get down to business, or bidding, at the Christmas Under the Clock Auction at Plain City Auction house. The auction only lasts about an hour so don’t delay or you might miss that perfect gift or decoration you’ve been looking for. Proceeds from the auction are split between the Plain City Food Pantry and Uptown Plain City Organization (UPCO).

You can also get started on your “progressive” dinner by visiting all the open houses with food and drink. Find time for live music and food at Lovejoy’s Plaza on Main Street, wagon rides to Yoder’s True Value Hardware for pictures with Santa, ice sculpting from Rock On Ice at Bicentennial Park where kids can get their names carved in ice, and crafts.

Be sure to fit gingerbread house decorating at the library into your evening schedule during Christmas Under the Clock somewhere between all the other activities. Art The Experience and Tolles Career & Technical Center will help UPCO and the library occupy the youngsters with hands-on play.

And, of course, chances to win the $500 VISA gift card are available at every open house. Just fill out the slips and drop them in the boxes. As a bonus, you can get extra chances for the prize drawing when you take non-perishable food items or toiletries to Plain City Food Pantry during Christmas Under the Clock. Extra chances on a gift card for a few items.

Many of the open houses also have their own items to give away in addition to the $500 gift card. It’s my understanding there are some tablets out there to be won. Get to all the open houses you can including the ones on Jefferson Avenue/U.S. Route 42. Be sure to grab a map at the tree lighting ceremony or when you fill out your first entry slip so that you won’t miss out on any good food or drawing chances.

It doesn’t get any better than this. Don’t miss the old time feel of Christmas at this joyful evening of food, fun, and holiday cheer.

Christmas Under the Clock is from 5-9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1. Plan to spend the evening at the friendliest, small town Christmas celebration around.
